Week One
Once the puppies reach the age of two weeks, we initiate daily interaction methods with the aim of familiarizing them to be touched on their ears, eyes, mouth, face, paws, and overall body. Most of our dogs will necessitate thorough grooming for their entire lifespan, which is why we acquaint them with the sounds and sensations tied to grooming routines like nail cutting, bathing, blow drying, brushing, and sanitary trimming. It's of utmost importance to keep up with these practices with your new puppies at your home, even prior to their eligibility for professional grooming services.
Commencing from three weeks old, our puppies undergo "litter box" training. It is innate in dogs and puppies to avoid soiling their sleeping area when an alternate option is given. Hence, we divide the whelping box into two sections: one for potty use and the other for sleeping and/or playing. For our litter boxes, we engage such materials as plastic trays, which are lined with pee pads infused with charcoal. This is then topped with paper pellets, protected by metal grates. This technique has proven to greatly foster cleanliness in puppies and significantly aids the progression to home potty training.
During the initial week, we minimize our interaction with the puppies. Our activities are confined to monitoring their daily weights, conducting ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), ESI (Early Scent Introduction), and providing any necessary special attention to any individual puppy. As the mother gets extremely jittery with her newborn puppies being disturbed, we make a point to reduce any unnecessary contact. We respect and value the role of the mother during these crucial initial few days and just ensure that all puppies are accommodated comfortably, staying warm, and nursing well.
By the fourth week, the puppies showcase excellent mobility. Their playful interactions with their siblings are increasing and they are beginning to develop their unique vocal sounds. Over the last week, they have started to use the litter box regularly. As they continue to improve on avoiding any mishaps, we will gradually expand their playing area. As the play area expands, we will introduce more toys to maintain their interest and facilitate their growth alternate option is given.
From approximately five weeks of age, we begin the process of familiarizing our puppies with a wire kennel, treating them as a collective litter. Over time, these puppies learn to endure several hours alone in individual kennels before being adopted by families when they turn eight weeks old. This method aids in easing the progression to crate training in their new environments. In addition, we ensure that those puppies which are destined to travel by air to their new homes get a chance to experience being in a soft-sided travel carrier one week prior to their departure. This preliminary introduction facilitates a smoother transition during the actual journey.
Paragraph
In week six, the litter box training process is progressing smoothly. A doggy door is now installed for the puppies, granting them outdoor access. A separate play yard, equipped with artificial grass, has been arranged exclusively for their activities. This not only provides the puppies with a fresh play environment but also initiates their outdoor potty training.
When puppies reach the age of 7 weeks, they undergo a comprehensive temperament test. This evaluation scrutinizes various attributes like energy level, confidence, motivation, toy/ prey drive, assertiveness, resilience, sensitivity to sight and sound, tolerance to touch, and attentiveness towards humans. Understanding these unique traits not only helps us cater to each puppy's distinct needs, but also enables us to pair the puppy with a family whose lifestyle and preferences align with the puppy's temperament. This yields lifelong bonds between the puppy and the family!
Our system is designed to assist families in making informed decisions when selecting their puppy. They will choose based on a comprehensive overview of the puppy’s characteristics including temperament, the type of their coat, and predicted size, rather than just appearance or color. This will empower the family to choose the best suited puppy based on all its traits.
